Ryugu

When Okinawa's ancestors thought of the afterlife, it was not a world of darkness, but a deep blue light. Beyond the ino-o (the shallow sea surrounded by coral reefs), they envisioned a bright place with an hollow sky. A world of blue.
Standing here on the shore of Okinawa, where I live, I feel the nature within me. And, as I look out at the horizon every day, I think of "Nirai Kanai," the heaven that is said to exist beyond it and I am not afraid of going there.
I imagine what lies beyond, a world of mermaids and dragons.
I see this dream in my photographs as well.

Special thanks to the spirits of nature in Okinawa and to my models Mimi Yamasaki, Kozue, Misa, and to my friends.
